Copper and Aphrodite

I love incorporating more than one metal in my designs, and I often use copper chains and findings for my necklaces and earrings. There’s something gorgeous in mixing copper and silver, copper and gold together, copper and bronze. Not only for the rich and beautiful color of copper but for it’s healing and spiritual nature. As far back as ancient Egypt, copper was recognized as having qualities to protect the wearer and to stimulate the mental and psychic flow of energy and was worn as a sign of wealth and power. One of the early sources of copper was the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea, (which is where it got it’s name).  Cyprus was known in ancient mythology as the island where the Goddess Aphrodite lived — when she wasn’t hanging out on Mt. Olympus or having affairs with gorgeous hunks!
